The relationship of form and function precludes treating anterior teeth as cosmetic challenges alone. Aesthetic and functional parameters of incisor position and morphology, dental facial treatment planning, determination of vertical dimension, and bite force management will be shown as components that allow comprehensive restorative treatment. Occlusal guidance must be understood so the final designs of the restoration can accommodate the intra-oral forces assuring longevity and predictability of the prosthesis. Achieving functionally and aesthetically exquisite anterior restorations requires knowledge of smile design, material selection, and preparation techniques. A technique that simplifies difficult space management cases using direct composite mock-ups and preparation guides to determine if no prep or minimal prep veneers are indicated, will be presented. Understanding the different dimensions of color and anatomic stratification techniques to achieve predictable anterior composite veneers and class IV’s requires mastering shade and material selection, layering, blending, contouring, and polishing techniques. This results in highly esthetic layered polychromatic anterior restorations.
Learning Objectives: • Integrate sound occlusal principles to create synergy between form and function. • Gain an understanding anterior guidance, CO versus CR, equilibration and VDO as components of restorative predictability. • Learn how to achieve an anterior predictable composite restoration following the stratification of opacities to achieve life like undetectable Class IV, Diastema Closure and Composite Veneer restorations. • Finishing and polishing techniques that create natural surface texture and reflection. • Identify which adhesives work the best for maximum predictability, matricing techniques for mastering posterior composite for predictable outcomes.
