Beside treatment length, one of the challenges facing orthodontists today is the ability to move teeth in areas with little gingiva or bone; the possibility of creating or aggravating an existing mucogingival defect is always present when dealing with a thin biotype.
Over the years, several surgical techniques have been developed to address such issues and reduce overall treatment time. Piezocision™ is a minimally invasive procedure combining micro-incisions and localized piezoelectric surgery to achieve similar results rapidly, with minimal trauma and discomfort. It is very well accepted by the patients and can be used with conventional orthodontics or clear aligners. Another advantage is the possibility of integrating short orthodontics, via piezocision, in multidisciplinary treatments to correct tooth position, create spaces etc…that will facilitate and optimize prosthetic and esthetic outcomes while allowing for minimally invasive dentistry.
Learning Objectives: • Grasp the biological basis and indications of Piezocision™ • Use Piezocision to expand the scope of your practice • Understand the RAP and its use to accelerate healing
